STANLEY H. CHILDS February 18, 1930 - February 17, 2001 It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Stan after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at his residence with his family by his side. Remaining to forever cherish his memory are his wife Ruby of 50 years of marriage; his children, Terrie (Ian), Sandy (Cecil), Gloria (Brian), Dennis (Susan), and Brian; special granddaughter Cheryl whom he raised, and 12 remaining grandchildren; one granddaughter-in-law and one great-grandson; Kevin "Captain"; brothers, Don and Pete; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Mervin, mother Alice, brother Bob, sister Winnie, grandson Shaun, brother-in-law "Gus" Gustafson, and by a sister-in-law Joyce. Stan was born and raised in Saskatchewan and in his late teens, travelled East to Toronto and began lifes work in the grocery business. He met and married Ruby while living there and together, they returned to Saskatchewan to begin a long career with the Co-op. With the start of their family, they came to Winnipeg to help set up and open Red River Co-op, where he remained in a Manager position until its closing. Stan later went into woodworking and started his own business, The Rustic Roost. Boating and fishing were his way of relaxing and he took many camping trips with his family and later travelled south in the winter months with Ruby. Our grandchildren soon became a big part of Stans life and they brought him great joy and pleasure. In compliance with Stans wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Our family wish to thank Dr. Brandis and staff at the CancerCare Foundation of Manitoba, to Dr. Marr and staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre, VON Nurse Louise, Linda our Home Care worker, and to our son-in-law Brian who went that extra mile. A special thanks to our wonderful and supportive friends and neighbours for being there throughout our trying times. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Stans memory to the CancerCare of Manitoba Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, Man. R3E 0V9. Those we Love dont go away, They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed, still very dear. Forever loved and missed by your family.
